‘The Lion King’ in Digital 3D Release This September
It’s one of those “Circle of life” things as Disney Entertainment has announced that they’ll be re-releasing their 1994 smash hit, “The Lion King” in 3D this September.
The 2D animated movie was one of Disney’s biggest hits of all time and had kids all over the world singing that “Hakuna Matata” song to the point of driving parents up the wall.
Now the flick will be seen in theatres for a two week run in September and is more like a test run for Disney to re-release all their top hits in 3D.
If this works, we may see an extended theatrical run which would be unprecedented and open up a new door for Disney and other studios who have been chomping at the bit to raise extra income and if they can re-release movies in 3D to resounding box office and DVD sales we could see an avalanche of older flicks released in the format.
Disney’s wizards came up with this 3D approach using the latest software and the mind boggles at the possibilities. Should they release such earlier classics such as Bambi or Sleeping Beauty to big box office applause there will be no end to such releases and explosion of sales via Blu-ray 3D and DVD.
The animated movies in 3D are one thing but other classics such as Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks might make the 3D scene.
It’s going to be one amazing thing to see the response as two weeks in September when school is in means the bulk of audience viewers will have to wait to the weekends to see them which might be the only drawback.
