MacGruber Review – “Saturday Night Live” has been known for turning their most popular sketches into feature films. In the beginning, these movies were highly regarded (Wayne’s World) and had fairly successful runs at the box office. In more recent years, the films haven’t been as well reviewed (The Ladies Man and Superstar), but still have had their cult followings when they hit the box office. Their latest effort, “MacGruber,” seems to have hit the nail on the head and is a return to their former feature film glory. The premise of the movie is that MacGruber plays a unique Special Forces operative who hasn’t been in action for over ten years after his fiancee was murdered while he was on the job. MacGruber also sports an immaculate mullet.

The comedy can be described as lowbrow. It is filled with a barrage of tasteless jokes that many individuals in the older generations would likely find very offensive. However, they are still able to connect with the masses and keep the film from becoming a complete joke. The plot, while crafted for comedic value, certainly is able to drive the movie along at a pace that keeps the viewers interest.
The lead acting in the movie is superb. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig are able to deliver a stellar performance that brings the movie together well. They are also hilarious, which helps the movie immensely.
The movie does have an “R” rating, so it would be wise to think twice before taking your kids to the movie. The humor is vulgar, and is not suitable for young children. With that said, this is the funniest movie that the Saturday Night Live crew has been able to produce since “Wayne’s World.”
