The holiday box office hauled in pretty good thanks to the Transformers third outing that brought in a global accumulative box office of over $416 million bucks.
That far outshines the rest of the box office and although it hasn’t brought in the monsterous $1 billion that Pirates of the Caribbean IV brought it, for a movie only out less than a week Transformers has shown that the franchise of super giant robots is still the stuff that big summer movies are made of.
Following the Transformers movie came PIXAR’s “Cars 2” that hauled in an additional $26 million for a cumulative $200 million globally. It’s performing less than optimum despite media attempts to paint it as a major box office hit.

Get ready for some more ‘Goldilocks’ hammer tossing tirades from everyone’s favorite Aesgardian and comic book superhero, Thor!
The monster sized box office take for this Marvel Comics character has hit half a billion worldwide which means it’s a shoe-in for a sequel that is now said to be on it’s way in 2013.
Thor won’t have its director Kenneth Branagh to helm the project which might be a good thing, but it does have Don Payne back on board to do the main writing chores.
Payne worked on other Marvel projects and superhero fare such as “Fantastic Four: Rise Of the Silver Surfer” and the Uma Thurman comedy, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”.
Of course Chris Hemsworth will return as the hammer slinging hero and for good reason.

Hollywood is being rocked by one of the biggest scandals and scams in history as the FBI and IRS have busted over 18 people for fraud and money laundering for allegedly soliciting $25 million to make movies.
Not only that but one of the main suspects is a former CIA agent who ran a movie company, the principal group that solicited and fouled up the money.
The former CIA agent ran a company called “Q Media Assets” and has already pled guilty to the conspiracy, fraud, and tax charges in regard to the case. In addition to that the other companies on the hit list are Cinamour Entertainment LLC accused of bilking investors who put money down hoping to get major returns.

There’s one thing that Hollywood studios now know they can depend on more than the Sun shining in the morning and that is just about anything comic book related is HUGE money.
Such is the case for the writing team of Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz who penned two big blockbusters “Thor” and “X-Men: First Class”.
The two are riding high on their fame and can make deals left and right.
Penning two Marvel Comics movies from a company that has been dominating the box office for over ten years straight, is a big opportunity and both have done well based on box office receipts and critics analysis.

It’s one of those “Circle of life” things as Disney Entertainment has announced that they’ll be re-releasing their 1994 smash hit, “The Lion King” in 3D this September.
The 2D animated movie was one of Disney’s biggest hits of all time and had kids all over the world singing that “Hakuna Matata” song to the point of driving parents up the wall.
Now the flick will be seen in theatres for a two week run in September and is more like a test run for Disney to re-release all their top hits in 3D.

The Vin Diesel franchise street racing flick “Fast Five” tore the doors off the competition this weekend with a domestic movie house haul of $83,630,000 and a worldwide haul of over $160 million.
The flick also features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and fans flocked to see the action flick which is the fifth in the franchise.
Following a distant second is the animated feature “Rio” that held the top spot for two weeks with a weekend total of $14 million for a three week total of $103 million plus domestically but a monster haul of $364 plus million globally.
Not bad for a $90 million budget from the company that brought the popular “Ice Age” flicks to life.
Tyler Perry’s “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family” rounded out the top three with $10 plus million for a cumulative domestic total of $41 million.
Next weekend however the Marvel Comics character “Thor” debuts directed by Kenneth Branaugh where already it has gobbled up over $93 million in the UK and abroad.

It looks like the Vin Diesel, Duane “The Rock” Johnson flick “Fast Five” has fired up the box office with racing speed with an estimated $34 million on Friday estimating it will bring in $80 million over the weekend.
Following was Blue Sky Studio/Fox’s “Rio” the animated leader of two top 1 spots with $5 million, Tyler Perry’s Mmadea’s Big Happy Family with $4 million and finally Water for Elephants and Prom.
The Fast and the Furious franchise of street racing mayhem has now eclipsed itself as fans of Diesel and The Rock are piling in to see their heroes in even bigger action.
It’s no doubt it’s the box office champ this weekend and will have to pull out the clutch and put the pedal to the medal with the upcoming Thor movie next weekend which is expected to be one of the top movies of the year next to the final Harry Potter movie, Transformers 3, Cars 2, and the other surprises.

Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”, a novel that has been a popular sci-fi/political work for years on end got it’s incarnation into a motion picture but it looks more like Atlas fell and dropped the Earth.
The movie is doing worse than badly. The only thing worse is if a meteor hit the theater where it plays and in the singular too. That’s how fast the screens are dropping as the movie only made $879,000 after its premiere.
There are online comic books and e-books about dog grooming that made more money than that during the same period.

The weekend box office saw the power of animation again as both Rio and Hop took the #1 and #4 spots respectively and Rio, the CG animated story of some love sick birds kept it’s #1 spot for the second week in a row.
Following in a very strong second to Rio is Tyler Perry’s latest “Madea” adventure, “Madea’s Big Happy Family”. Coming in third is “Water For Elephants”.
The holiday weekend turned out alright for Hollywood and the cumulative seems strong enough for the upcoming month of May where the heavyweight superhero movies like “Thor” are to debut.

Okay it’s time to tie up the teenage girls as “Twilight” saga hunk guy Taylor Lautner’s new movie is going to hit the theaters.
Lautner stars in a new movie called “Abduction” that is about him trying to find his true identity amongst a myriad of shadowy figures bent on capturing him. It’s like a mini combination of “The Fugitive” and “Borne Identity” rolled into one with smatterings of “Matrix” slow motion action.
The trailer shows Lautner discovering he’s not who he thinks he is and creepy government types attacking him at home as he narrowly escapes with Lily Collins. Also in the flick are favorites Sigourney Weaver and Alfred Molina.
The movie hit’s theaters in late September so the girls will be chomping at the bit all Summer long until they get a glimpse of their heartthrob in his new action flick.
The combination of Lautner and Collins, the new breed in flicks along with stars like Weaver and Molina should make for an entertaining movie and all “Twilight Saga” jokes aside, it should give Lautner a chance to show if he can hold a movie on his own.
